Dhanteras-
The First Day of Diwali 2015
Dhanteras is known as the first day of Diwali & it is the chosen
by many people to buy New things like gold & Silver. Dhanteras
2015 is falls on 9th November. It is observed two days
before Diwali & falls on the 13th day of the dark
fortnight of Kartik Month.
Dhanteras- Dhan means 'Wealth' & Teras means the “The
thirteenth day”. In most of the places in India, Maharashtra,
Gujarat, Dhanteras is an auspicious day to buy precious metals like
silver, Platinum, Gold. Women buy utensils on this auspicious day.
Precious metals bought on the day is seen as a sign of good luck.
Earthern Clay oil lamps or Diyas are lit on the Dhanteras day in the
evening to banish the evil spirits.
Dhanvantri
Puja
The auspicipus day is also dedicated to Dhanvantri, the divine
physician, & therefore special Dhanvantri Puja is held on the day
by some communities in India. The day is of great significance to
homes & business community. Homes are decorated & special
beautiful rangolis are drawn on the floor. Small foot prints are made
in the houses. Some people also perform Lakshmi Puja on the day.
